IPCME
The International Partnership for Choral Music Education (IPCME) was formed in 2014 to facilitate continuing education opportunities for choral conductors in South Africa. The IPCME team travels to South Africa annually to work with conductors in schools, community choirs, and houses of worship. Drawing on the hallmarks of service-learning, our team of conductors from the US and the UK partner with conductors in South Africa to establish useful objectives and create meaningful workshops in the areas of conducting, vocal pedagogy, music literacy, and choral techniques.
Together with colleague Dr. James Meaders of Vox Anima London, Dr. Walker developed The Path to the Podium, a conducting pedagogy grounded in a kinesthetic approach to the conducting gesture, and focused on embodying the score for expressive communication. Dr. Walker employs this pedagogy with conductors in South Africa as well as with her students at the University of South Carolina.
