Choirs of Carolina

The University of South Carolina School of Music is home to the Choirs of Carolina.  These choirs include the Concert Choir, University Chorus, Gamecock Chorale (TTBB), Garnet Chorale (SSAA), Carolina Alive (Vocal Jazz), and the Graduate Vocal Ensemble (Conducting Recital Choir).

The Concert Choir and Garnet Chorale are conducted by Dr. Alicia W. Walker.  The choirs sing annual concerts of major works, and diverse programs that include all style periods, global music, and premieres of commissioned pieces.  Concert Choir, the flagship ensemble, has traveled the globe, performing in some of the world’s most prestigious venues.  The Choirs of Carolina have been invited to sing for national, regional, and state conferences, at venues throughout Columbia, and at USC athletic events.

Within the choral department at USC, there are opportunities to study abroad and for service-learning.  The student chapter of ACDA is active in the choral department, hosting choral clinics, participating in ChorTransform, and attending conferences.

Undergraduate admissions/scholarship audition information is available here.

The large graduate program at USC has many distinguished alumni of the DMA, PhD, MM (Conducting), MME, and MAT (Music Education) degree programs.  Summer only degree programs include the MME and MM in Conducting.  Assistantships are available; interested applicants should contact Dr. Walker for more information, and visit the School of Music website
